A Weekend of Golden Memories

Alumni, faculty, trustees and their family members enjoyed food and fun during the final event of Alumni Weekend—a special 50th Anniversary Brunch on Sunday, April 30. The alumni celebration was filled with nostalgia, including video highlights of each of HMC’s generations. The founding Class of 1961 and representatives of all the decades came forth to reminisce (click here for the texts of several presentations), and the Harvey Mudd College Alumni Association (HMCAA) presented the Lifetime Recognition Award to Trustees Clifford Miller, Trude Taylor, and to Joe and Jean Platt for their long and distinguished service to HMC. The 50th Anniversary Brunch was part of HMC’s six-month 50th Anniversary Celebration. The kickoff of the anniversary was actually celebrated in 18 separate sites on Founders Day, Dec. 14, 2005. In January, HMC hosted a National Conference “The Future of Engineering, Science and Mathematics: Who Will Lead?”, and the Dr. Bruce J. Nelson ’74 Distinguished Speaker Series (50th Anniversary edition) featured noted alumni from all generations and different disciplines. You CAN too!

The CAN was created for and by Claremont Colleges Alumni to offer a forum where members share business referrals, leads and introductions. While chapters are limited to the Southern California area (Encino, downtown Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties) CAN members are exploring ways to expand nationally. A Great Use for Past Bulletins!

Before tossing that old issue of the college magazine, consider ways of sharing the news of Harvey Mudd College with others. Leave a copy in the waiting room at your office. Or perhaps in the waiting room of your doctor, dentist or beauty salon--anywhere other reading material is displayed. Even consider taking it to a local high school, senior facility or church. Often these and other locations are delighted to have new reading material, and you serve the dual purpose of spreading the word about your alma mater to a wider audience.
